The Other Side of Russia project is realized in the year of intergovernmental collaboration between Russia and Italy, in cooperation with a well-known Italian cultural organization Mazzotta and is a result of deep research of Russia.

The curators Leonardo Rotatori and Victoria Saava are revealing an amazing world of Russian women in the frames of the art-project. Self-confident, brave and strong person, but at the same time very feminine and beautiful, committed to the traditions and high moral qualities – this the way the curators see a contemporary Russian woman.

One of the aims of the project is to tell about that unique reality to the world community using the language of art and to give an opportunity to get to know «other» life stories to the world, which can be an inspiring example for people of other cultures. The Other Side of Russia project was shown in Venice, Italy and became a sensation among the public.

The project is realized with help of different media: in the form of pencil drawing on board, in the form of a video-installation of photographs, on internet and on paper.

The core of the project is The Russian Soul Installation, created by a significant contemporary Italian artist Omar Galliani in a characteristic technique. The art-work consists of many portraits of Russian women, united in one «chorus».

The Russian Soul, Installation Work-in-progress 2011 is a «monument», that is developing in the eyes of the audience. The artist will go on working on it by the of the project in November 2011 in Russia.

An important feature of the project The Other Side of Russia is that the art-work is created not only by the artist but also with help of Russian women, who «lent» their faces to Omar Galliani to draw their portraits, and also with help of the audience, who can become participants and creators of the project thanks to the web-site Face and Soul (www.faceandsoul.ru).

There is an online photo-gallery on the Face and Soul web-site. The images of women, uploaded by the Russian internet-users are building a photo album of women from the whole Russia. Later, from the pictures uploaded to www.faceandsoul.ru Omar Galliani will choose 8 images and will create 8 final portraits for the Installation based on these images. In addition all the photos will be used in the video-installation and will be published on the pages of an art-album, devoted to the project, after its end.
