Pietro Ruffo’s paintings, drawings and installations reflect his intense social and moral concerns. A Complex Istant1 in its first part is a group of flags of different mediterranean nations, combined with a German text and presenting a sort of spatialisation of time, which is not geometric space but espacement of our constant state of becoming-other. Concept of positive liberty is explored by Ruffo through six portraits of philosophers of the French Revolution identified by Berlin as the enemy of freedom. The final part of the project, Atlas of the Various Freedoms, examines though drawings and interviews with contemporary philosophers the different way of interpreting and understanding the concept of freedom today. The artist is interested to investigate what new model of liberty might be for contemporary society.
